BOXRAW Sleeper of the Week: Raymond Ford
Despite boxing career prospects having looked worrying for some time during the peak of the global pandemic, many opportunities are now arising for the world’s brightest stars.
With restrictions continuing to be eased across different countries and many huge fight nights coming back, some of the top upcoming talents are once again being able to showcase their credentials on the big stage.
One of those rising stars, Raymond Ford, is next aiming to show exactly why he’s been dubbed as the ‘Savage’ and hailed as one of the most exciting young prospects coming through the ranks at super-featherweight.
The big names are finally taking to the ring again and that leaves plenty of opportunities for future champions to grab attention on undercards. Canelo Alvarez recently returned to the ring, with a host of young prospects featuring on his event in Dallas, Texas.
Next up is another massive show headlined by two modern day greats and future Hall of Famers - as Roman Gonzalez and Juan Francisco Estrada collide in Dallas as well.
But hoping to capture the headlines before the main event is one of Eddie Hearn’s highly-touted American prospects. Ford enjoyed a stand-out amateur career, in which he claimed the US National Golden Gloves on two occasions before an online exchange with Hearn led to a Matchroom Boxing deal.
Now in the professional ranks, Ford has begun brightly and lived up to his early hype; taking his chance to shine on several high-profile cards already.
This included an early appearance at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden, having earned a solid decision victory there in only his fourth pro ring outing.
The New Jersey sensation now prepares to face latest American challenger Aaron Perez on the Estrada vs. ‘Chocolatito’ undercard in Dallas, where Ford can take another step towards the success he looks destined for at the top level.
