BOXRAW In Camp With Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford

“I’m Terence Crawford and I’m the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world. Let’s fucking go.”

Terence Crawford fights for legacy. Already a three-weight world champion and former undisputed ruler, ‘Bud’ now looks to cement his name in boxing history.

July 29th represents the opportunity to do exactly that in the awaited super-fight against long-standing rival Errol Spence Jr.

A showdown years in the making and anticipated by fans globally, Crawford seeks to become the first man to reign as undisputed in two weight classes during the era of multiple titles.

BOXRAW Founder and CEO, Ben Amanna, joined 'Bud' in training camp.

Victory would also see the Omaha-native crowned the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era and the first holder of all the 147 pounds division’s titles since Zab Judah in 2006.

There’s an old school feel to this clash between two no-nonsense fighters, who sealed their fight agreement in true throwback fashion of a simple phone call with each other.

The pound-for-pound number one has been training in Colorado Springs.

But the talking’s done now, as Crawford prepares to battle for welterweight supremacy and seal his status as the number one pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.

BOXRAW linked up with ‘Bud’ during his training camp in Colorado Springs, as he focused on going 40-0 with the most prominent victory in his illustrious career so far in Las Vegas.

In Training Camp With Bud

Having already done so much in your career, where does your main motivation come from to keep on pushing yourself to achieve even more?

"So my motivation is just to keep conquering these weight classes that I’ve been moving up. And I’m motivated by my family and to accomplish big things in life."

What can you learn in boxing that you can’t learn anywhere else in life?

"Well, in boxing what you can learn that you can’t learn anywhere in life is that you don’t play boxing. Boxing is a serious sport and some fighters have lost their life in the ring. So, you don’t play boxing."

With a win on July 29th, you become undisputed in two weight classes and a champion in three. What’s next past that point?

"Well, I’m not looking past that point. I’m looking at what’s in front of me and that’s Errol Spence, on July 29th."

We've seen you training with your kids recently and they’re boxing and picking up trophies. How has training with them changed you?

"Well, training in front of them hasn’t really changed me much. It just gave them the motivation to keep pushing hard and seeing that their father is training real hard. So, when I ask them to train and do something, then they do it."

Do you have any pre-fight rituals or superstitions that you follow?

"Not at all. What’s gonna happen is gonna happen. It’s already written in the book."

Talk to us about the dynamic in the camp with your team. It seems very unique in the sense that it’s family orientated.

"Oh yeah, for sure. Like, all these people here, all these individuals that you see is my family. And we always carry it that way and it’s always been that way."

And what is having hungry fighters like Shakur Stevenson in your camp like? How does it help you in the build-up to a fight?

"Well, it motivated me because everybody’s striving for the same thing and that’s to become great. You don’t want lazy fighters around. But when you got motivated fighters, everybody’s motivated to become great. Everybody’s more motivated to work, put the work in."

What does it mean to finally be here?

"To be here is everything. It’s what the fans been wanting, it’s what everybody been wanting and it’s here now. And I just can’t wait to get it over with and be successful and become undisputed. July 29th."
